After the sweltering heat, monsoons are heartily welcomed. The earthy smell of wet lands, breezy mornings, is something you love to witness during this season. However with the relief from the hot weather, monsoons also carry with them an array of bacterial infections which may take a toll on your body and overall health. Our monsoon health depends on the foods we consume and the water we drink and a few more things. Let’s equip ourselves with the do's and don’ts so as to maintain a

good health during this.


Here are a few tips which can save you from falling sick during monsoons:

  • Always drink boiled water during monsoons. One of the most important factors for diseases like jaundice, typhoid, and dysentery is consumption of contaminated water. By drinking boiled water this four months especially children you can safeguard yourselves big time from falling sick.


  • Wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly, so as to remove all the dirt well.


  • Try to eat freshly cooked food, or always heat the food if precooked. Warm dals, warm soups can help lower the inflammation.


  • Avoid leafy green vegetables during the monsoon season as they are susceptible to germs due to the dampness and grime in the air.


  • Eat in moderation as the body finds it difficult to digest heavy food items. Moong dal is the choice during monsoons as it is easy to digest.


  • Have warm drinks infused with ginger, mint, pepper, lemon grass, tulsi, turmeric. It will have a soothing effect; can help you feel better with sore throat, common colds, sinusitis and other monsoon related ailments.


  • Oily foods such as pakoras, samosas, kachories and fries are very tempting in this season, however keep in mind to eat small quantities and not overindulge. As the digestive system is slow during monsoons. Also salty foods add to water retention so it is best advised avoid it to avoid it.


  • Also avoid sea food during monsoons as this the breeding season for fish and prawns.


  • Try to keep up your exercise regime and sweat out the extra moisture. Also monsoons can be depressing for many, exercise will help release the happy hormones.
